What should I record if the heating target keeps changing?
Note the wall reading, target, active schedule and any app setting at the same time. Establish which equipment the control serves, and keep a record before editing schedules or replacing the device.
Identify the intended system
Label each control in your notes by its room or building. Use an app's device name only if you know it matches that place. A vague or old name can link the complaint to the wrong system.
Do not turn every control up to find out which unit responds. Name the one you normally use and state what you do not know. Keep any plans or records that show the separate systems.
Capture the settings before changing them
Record the wall reading, target and mode when the problem occurs. Note any schedule, hold or app override in the normal user menu. If another person is allowed to use it, check if they meant to change it.
A target that changes differs from a steady target the furnace cannot reach. The first starts with the settings. The second also needs a check of the heat response. Neither proves that the wall device has failed.
Keep the correction specific
Ask if the fix concerns a schedule, setup, control power or a furnace fault. Leave wires and installer menus alone. Before buying a new control, check that it suits the system it will run.
For the Golden Gate Estates call, explain who may change shared or remote settings. Check the charge and which unit the visit will cover. Keep passwords private. A symptom report does not need your app login.
More about this heating problem
Does an app showing Heat mean the rooms are warming?
It may show a heating request or selected mode. Report the room conditions and wall reading as well so a control display is not mistaken for confirmed heat delivery.
